Higher education is crucial for students looking to break employment barrier, however it has not always been accessible to the large portion f students who do not have the financial backing for full tuition. The same is true for students who need to go abroad to study in their chosen fields.
The Cambodian government has taken significant steps to ensure that higher education opportunities are more accessible to its graduating high school students. Between 2009 and 2013, student enrollment climbed to 207,000. and scholarship grants reached 4,700. There are also various scholarship options available via foreign governments to study abroad. Here is a scholarship guide to help your search:

About: The Australia Award Scholarship aims to provide students from developing countries the opportunity to undertake university studies in Australia. Since reopening its programme in Cambodia in 1994, Australia has welcomed more than 600 Cambodian students through the Australia Awards Scholarship.
Studies: Post-graduate studies (Master’s Degree)
Subject: Any – focus on: Infrastructure; Agriculture; Health; Education Management; Trade.
English requirements: 6.5 IETLS or TOEFL equivalent
What does the scholarship cover: Full university tuition; housing allowance; basic medical insurance; monthly living stipend; travel cost to and from Australia.

Fun fact: Approximately 50 Australia Awards are available to Cambodians for postgraduate studies in Australia every year.

About: With more than 288,000 foreigners attending French universities in 2013, France is the third leading recipient of foreign students, behind the US and the UK. France is the 2nd biggest destination for Cambodian students, behind Thailand, with about 600 Cambodian students going there to study each year.

Fun fact: Each year, the French government allocates 500,000 euros in scholarship funds
to the French Embassy in Cambodia.

The UK has played an active role in supporting the development of young Cambodian leaders since 1993 through its Chevening award scheme. To date, 96 students have received this scholarship to study in the UK. The global programme was set up in 1983 to offer future leaders, decision makers and influencers of the business world the opportunity to access world renowned universities that will give them extensive networking opportunities while allowing them to develop their skills within a new culture and among a diverse group of people. The Chevening scholarship is aligned with Cambodia’s push for STEM-oriented careers. While the program is open to any subject, British Ambassador Bill Longhurst says students looking to study STEM subjects would be particularly welcomed.

Fun fact: In 2015, the British Embassy selected 16 of Cambodia’s brightest post-graduates, four-times the number of students in 2014.
